"This past Wednesday, the 19th of July, my parents took me to Congress with a group of activists from Chicago. They were going to argue for a moratorium on raids and deportations of illegal immigrants. I was interested in going, and I tried to get as many friends to go as I can, but no one was interested. My parents had made the connection between the Chicago group and the National Council of Churches, which offered us the chance to use its building as headquarters. We split up into groups and went to talk to representatives and senators. I usually said nothing, because I had nothing to say, unlike the activists from Chicago, who told their own personal stories, most of which were very sad. They told stories of husbands and fathers who were forcibly deported after living here for more than ten or fifteen years. I was very impressed with the feeling of being in the center of the action. Another very amazing thing was seeing the facial expressions of the activists, as they realize their dreams and talk to the same congressmen who make the laws that make or break them."
